Scarlet Woman 2002

Scarlet Woman — Celia de Villiers
Scarlet Woman — Stainless steel & fibre

Collection: Museum of Arts and Design, New York

Like biological life, these works are mutations — never copies.Celia de Villiers

An early work in Celia de Villiers’ long inquiry into the female body, myth and adornment — the title invoking the archetypal ‘scarlet woman’, at once temptress and outcast. Worked in red fibre over a steel armature, it was acquired by the Museum of Arts and Design, New York.
